This very sad news shows how great unknown risks can be taken in Portugal, including risking one’s own life, even when doing good for other people.
An elderly German couple came to Portugal with the idea of spending a peaceful and pleasant retirement, but instead they were barbarically killed at the hands of two animalistic Portuguese who had nowhere to fall dead, and that this German couple so generously gave shelter and food in their own home in exchange for taking care of their small farm.
I believe that this Portuguese man and woman committed such a diabolical and senseless act simply because they are extremely primitive human beings, probably on an animal level, and not necessarily because they are psychopaths.
This is an extremely horrific event, but not as rare an occurrence in Portugal as one might think. Still, the surest thing that can happen if you let most Portuguese into your home is that they will steal from you.
My condolences to the German family.

The elderly died in mid-April, but it was only this Wednesday, May 10, that the bodies were discovered. The suspect couple would work for the Germans and a disagreement will be at the origin of the crime.
Residents of the parish of Baleizão, in Beja, were shocked by the death of Janedi Borgwardt, 71 years old, and Jan Otton, 79. The bodies of this retired German couple were found this Wednesday, May 10, on a high state of decomposition, but the Judiciary Police (PJ) has already managed to detain the suspects.
The pair had been in a relationship for over 20 years and were highly regarded in the region. They were last seen in April, when they asked the parish council for help in clearing the woods in front of their house. Another couple responded to this request, a 54-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, who the elderly welcomed in exchange for their collaboration in agricultural work, advances “Correio da Manhã”.
However, it seems that this was not enough for the pair of caretakers, who were unemployed and facing economic difficulties. They began to demand more from the German couple, according to the same publication, which adds that it was around that same time, in mid-April, that the elderly died.
The case was only discovered because the son of one of the Germans, who still resides in Germany, alerted the embassy in Portugal, since he could not contact them. The diplomatic representation ended up issuing the alert and, this Wednesday, May 10, the authorities found the bodies of the elderly in the house where they lived.
Both were in different parts of the house: one was at the door and the other was in the bedroom. However, the couple had several injuries in vital areas, such as the head, which must have been inflicted with a blunt object – a stick or iron, for example, which have not yet been found at the crime scene.
After discovering the remains of the elderly, authorities were quick to get to the suspects. This Friday, May 12, the PJ indicated that the suspects (the couple of housekeepers who worked for the Germans) were detained because there were “strong indications of the commission of two crimes of qualified homicide, which occurred in the municipality of Beja”, reports Lusa, quoted by the “Observador”.
The alleged murderers, who live together, were detained in the municipality of Aljustrel, also in the district of Beja, advances a source from the PJ’s southern Directorate, according to the same publication. It also confirms that the crime occurred as a result of a disagreement.
The detainees are indicted for two crimes of aggravated homicide and will be presented to court for the first judicial interrogation and application of any coercive measures. The inquiry is directed by the Department of Investigation and Penal Action of Beja.
I have lived in this country. It doesn’t matter to the Portuguese if you do them a favor or not, they always want to take revenge on you anyway, it’s really weird. Brainless, mentally ill and extremely jealous people.
What a shame… May they rest in peace. Always be careful with these people! Trust no one!
