Vasco da Gama Bridge “is an example of corruption in Portugal”

This gentleman, Paulo Morais, really says it all, here are some shocking sentences from him:

“The gentlemen who built this bridge managed, with only 200 million euros, to OWN the tolls of the Vasco da Gama Bridge and the 25 de Abril Bridge for a generation.”

“The Portuguese State, which did not have the money to build the bridge, already had the money to compensate private parties TWICE the price of the bridge”.

“It is no coincidence that the managers of Lusoponte today ARE the people who worked in the government at that time”.

Typical Portuguese megalomaniac corruption in plain daylight, and the Portuguese people don’t care one bit about the theft. Their silence and submission to the corrupt is total. Shameful people!

This gentleman, who speaks many truths, should have won the elections for the Presidency of the Republic, for which he was a candidate, but of course he didn’t, because the Portuguese don’t like serious and honest people, let alone vote for them. If he had the votes of his family, he was lucky!

According to Paulo Morais, a candidate for the presidency of the Republic, one of the most visible signs of corruption in Portugal is the Vasco da Gama Bridge.

An idea he defended during a lecture in Palmela entitled “Corruption at the Origin of the Crisis,” according to statements published by the newspaper Setúbal Na Rede.

During his speech, Paulo Morais emphasized that the Vasco da Gama Bridge “is an example of how corruption becomes systemic in Portugal” and a case that “particularly shocks” him.

The presidential candidate said, according to the newspaper, that the Vasco da Gama Bridge cost “870 million euros, of which the private sector paid 200 million, 300 million came from the European Union as a non-refundable loan, another 300 million from a loan from the European Investment Bank, and the rest from tolls on the 25 de Abril Bridge.

“The gentlemen who built this bridge managed, with only 200 million euros, to own the tolls of the Vasco da Gama and 25 de Abril bridges for a generation,” said Paulo Morais, as quoted in the same publication.

The candidate for the Presidency of the Republic also notes that “there is a report from the Court of Auditors that says that in additional work, indemnities, compensation and agreements to restore financial balance,

the State had already paid the concessionaire 900 million euros” .

“The Portuguese State, which did not have the money to build the bridge, after all already had the money to compensate private parties twice the price of the aforementioned bridge”,

states Paulo Morais, concluding that,

“Not by chance, the managers of Lusoponte today are the people who worked in the government at that time.”.

For Paulo Morais, it is also clear that “it was corruption that brought us to the public debt crisis” and that “at the local level”, “it brought us to the private debt crisis”. Therefore, he argues that “the fight against corruption must be our greatest struggle.
